To commemorate the 1920 adoption of the Nineteenth Amendment to the United States Constitution, Evansville Vanderburgh Public Library will host a Women’s Equality Day program with the League of Women Voters of Southwestern Indiana. The program will reflect on the women’s suffrage movement and the passing of the Nineteenth Amendment, which prohibits the states and the federal government from denying the right to vote to citizens of the United States on the basis of sex. The program will also highlight the struggles women of color faced when trying to exercise their right to vote.

Voter registration will also be available from 2-4 pm.

Thursday, September 5, 5:30-7:30 pm

Starting at St Lucas UCC, 33 West Virginia St.

Join the League of Women Voters of Southwestern Indiana for a Gerrymander Meander to raise awareness for the need for redistricting reform. Meet at St. Lucas UCC, 33 West Virginia to learn about redistricting.  Then travel by car to Garvin Park, followed by one-mile walk through a checkerboard of districts back to the church.  The walk will highlight how gerrymandering divides our neighborhoods to benefit politicians. Walk is optional.  Light refreshments.
